Masai Mara National Reserve
The Masai Mara National Reserve is probably the best known and most visited national park in Kenya. The Masai Mara is known for famous safaris, the large number of animals that you will find here and the proud Masai people.
Masai Mara is located on the border with Tanzania against the Serengeti National Park. The animals that live here migrate between the Masai Mara and the Serengeti National Park. You can spot the Big Five in the Masai Mara and you will also find many other types of animals here. In the right season you can see The Great Migration here. That is the migration of large numbers of wildebeest, gazelles and zebras from Serengeti to the Masai Mara or vice versa. The best time to see this is usually between June and August, the exact time is different every year. When the large amounts of animals are in Tanzania, the Masai Mara park is a little less interesting.
The park is a savanna with gently rolling hills, acacia forests and vast plains with beautiful views. Large and small game is abundantly present. The largest populations of lions in Kenya live in this area and the chances are quite high to see them hunting. Cheetahs and leopards are also abundant but more difficult to spot.
